Our growth as an accounting firm in the UK
Over the years we’ve grown from a two-man-band to what is now a fantastic team of fifteen. As Square Mile continues to flourish, it’s more important than ever that we bring the right people on board to help shape the future of the company.
Towards the end of 2020, we had reached a point where we needed to strengthen our leadership team before we entered our next stage of growth. Having worked with Tania during his time in the City of London, David knew she would be the best person to help us implement the company vision and help drive the business forward. And the rest, they say, is history.
Meet Tanya
Tania Bennett (FCCA) is a certified Chartered Accountant and enjoyed a 15-year career in the City of London with Arthur Andersen, Morgan Stanley, UBS and Barclays Investment Bank. Following a similar path to David, Tania founded North Star Accounting in 2015 to escape the City and find a more balanced pace of life. Tania joins Square Mile as Operations Director and brings a wealth of experience. Having worked with Tania for a few weeks, it’s clear that she shares a similar outlook to David, with a keen focus for delivering first-class client service, taking clients from feeling overwhelmed to having clarity and focus. Tania shares her thoughts on her new role:
“I’m really looking forward to sharing the best practice from both firms to create an experience that makes a real difference to the lives of our clients. The Square Mile team are forward-thinking and there are a lot of great initiatives that we will be putting into place over the next few months to give us the right foundations for our ongoing growth. Meet Fiona
Fiona Fletcher worked alongside Tania at North Star Accounting since 2017 and joins Square Mile as Financial Controller. Fiona started her career at PwC and later moved to work in finance and internal audit at the BBC. With her experience in internal audit, Fiona will be helping us to streamline our processes, alongside looking after clients on a day-to-day basis. Fiona mentioned a few things about her new role that she’s excited about:
“The biggest thing for me is working with a bigger team with the support of a lovely bunch of people. Everyone has been so welcoming and keen to share their knowledge. I really admire the ethos of the company and I’m looking forward to being part of creating the business as a ‘force for good’, with our aspirations for B Corp accreditation. There’s a lot to get involved with.”

Square Mile is founded on a strong culture which is at the heart of the company’s success. This will continue to be a focus for David and Tania. A key part of this is our flexible approach. As you may know, David has been an advocate of flexible working long before COVID or pandemic were part of our lives and his view on this was recently featured in The Guardian.
