Founded in 2016 with a portfolio that includes the likes of FloodFlash and By Miles, Insurtech Gateway is an early-stage insurtech investor. With offices in London and Australia, the high-growth innovator has recently completed their first close on Seed Fund II, which will allow the Gateway to support another 20 teams over the next 4 years from pre-seed to Series A. CEO Richar Chattock says that Insurtech Gateway creates a “safe space” for founders to innovate and collaborate with insurers, at his recent interview at ITC Vegas.
Planera have developed the first certified flushable and biodegradable sanitary pads that disperse quickly in water, and after a three-year R&D process, Planera has a flushability certification as well as VC backing in its pre-seed round from last year.
Square Mile, as their accounting partner, audited their assumptions used for their Innovate UK grant. Further, their financial assumptions have been used to build a three-way forecast (profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow) for Planera to determine how best to launch their business. Additionally, they intended to present it to potential investors to determine how much to raise and to add credibility to their story. They successfully raised £7.5m seed funding and an Innovate UK grant to launch their product. As a part-time FD (Financial Director), we will help plan and strategize for their product launch.

In the beginning, James Dawson held pop-up tastings and delivered his wines personally. He has five locations in London now and ships over 400 sustainable wines to any part of the UK. Less than two years after securing £1.3 million through its Seedrs funding round, he returned and secured its initial £400,000 funding target. The initiative was nearing £550,000 thanks to more than 175 investors. Square Mile has worked with Humble Grape CEO James Dawson, since 2016. and produce management accounts and KPIs for him so that he can manage the profitability by bar and take action.
